Senior Penghu artisan – Tsai, Shu-Mu restores old houses by hand and reconstructs the beauty of settlements on Ju Island
He injects his memories into these handmade old houses and assembles his memories into these simple models, hoping Penghu folks in the future will never forget the look of old houses on Penghu.
Mr. Tsai, Shu-Mu, a senior, spent half of his life in the profession of being a builder, working with concrete and RC. After he retired, he collected wood and parts to make mini mud house models in accordance with his childhood memories by teaching himself for more than a decade. He remodeled the early houses in Penghu vividly. He not only presents the beauty of old settlements in Penghu but also displays the essence of Penghu’s prolific history. The General Association of Chinese Culture held a press conference specially at Tsai, Ting-Lan Imperial Scholar Candidate House at Magong, Penghu to connect with the local. Chiang, Chun-Nan, the Deputy Director of the Culture Association and Lin, Chin-Chang, the Secretary-General of the Culture Association attended the conference. They invited Magistrate Chen, Kuang-Fu of Penghu County, Tsai, Shu-Mu - the artisan of old house models, Tsai, Wen-ho – the Director of the Xing-ren Community Development Association and the family of Master Tsai, Shu-Mu to watch the premiere of the movie. The Culture Association also presented a specially hand embroidered banner with the words “The Artisan’s Spirit” to Mr. Tsai to pay respect to his artisan spirit and to show their expectations of having more artisans in Penghu manifest the local cultural features.
